Pattaya's adult-entertainment economy is one of the most visible parts of the city's nightlife — particularly along Walking Street and the connecting Soi 6 — but it is also one of the most misunderstood by first-time visitors. Most issues that travellers report at go-go bars come down to three things: not knowing what is on the menu before sitting down, not asking for an itemized receipt before paying, and not understanding the difference between a drink price and a "lady drink" price. This page is designed to answer those questions, not to recommend or rank venues.
The format is consistent across venues. A go-go bar in Pattaya is a licensed entertainment establishment with a stage, podium dancers, table service, and a structured drinks menu that includes both regular drinks (for the customer) and "lady drinks" (drinks bought for staff members who sit with the customer, usually priced ฿180–฿240). Lady drinks are the principal way staff earn commission. Buying one is optional, not mandatory, and a customer can sit and drink alone without obligation. If a staff member joins your table unprompted and orders, you are entitled to ask them to leave or to verify the drink is being added to your tab before agreeing.
Pricing transparency is the single most important issue. Reputable venues — including the two we cover, Windmill and Baccara — post their full price list visibly at the entrance or on every table. Always read it before ordering. Always request an itemized printed receipt (called a "check bin" or "chit") before paying. Never agree to anything off-menu without a price stated up front. If a price is not stated, assume it is the highest possible and walk away if you are not comfortable. Both card and cash are accepted at the venues we cover, though cash is preferred.
Dress code and entry. Most Walking Street go-go bars enforce a smart-casual standard for men: no singlets, no flip-flops, closed shoes preferred. Couples and groups including women are welcome at almost every venue — the inside-Thailand cliché that go-go bars are for lone men is decades out of date. Anyone visibly intoxicated will be turned away at the door at reputable venues.
Legal considerations. The minimum age to enter any licensed adult venue in Thailand is 20. Photography inside venues is generally prohibited and will be enforced. Anything beyond drinks-and-dancing is not part of the published licensed business and is at the personal arrangement of consenting adults. We do not cover that side of the trade; resources for visitor safety and consent are widely available and we encourage anyone considering it to read them first.
