The two most-asked questions about Pattaya's Walking Street are "what does it cost to get in?" and "what should I wear?" The good news: nothing, and almost anything. The longer answer, with the few exceptions that matter, is below.
The headline rules
- Entry to Walking Street itself is free. There are no gates, ticket booths or wristbands. You walk on from either Beach Road or Bali Hai Pier.
- Most individual venues are also free. The exception is the two flagship megaclubs (Illuzion and 808), which sometimes charge 300–500 THB on weekends or for international DJ headliners — almost always with a complimentary drink included.
- Dress code is light everywhere. Closed-toe shoes at the flagships; anything goes at the rest.
- Cash is king at smaller venues; cards are accepted at the megaclubs. Carry 2,000–3,000 baht in mixed notes for a full night.
Cover charges by venue, on Walking Street
Megaclubs
Live music rooms (on or just off the strip)
Go-go bars
Entry to all major Walking Street go-go bars including Baccara and Windmill is free. The cost model is different: you're expected to buy drinks (your own and, optionally, lady-drinks for staff). Standard pricing is roughly:
- Your beer: 140–180 THB
- Lady-drink (a small cocktail bought for a staff member): 200–250 THB; the staff member receives a commission
- "Bar fine" (a fee to take a staff member off-shift): 600–1,500 THB depending on venue; does not include any further arrangement, which is a separate private matter between adults
Always ask for an itemised receipt before settling. Disputed bills are the single most common Walking Street complaint and an itemised receipt eliminates the problem before it starts.
Dress code, venue by venue
The strict ones (relatively)
- Illuzion — Closed-toe shoes required. No athletic singlets. No flip-flops. T-shirts, jeans and shorts (above the knee) are fine.
- 808 Club — Closed-toe shoes required. Same rule otherwise as Illuzion. The rooftop section is slightly stricter on weekends.
The "no real code" group
Insomnia, Lucifer, Marine, Tony's, Differ, The Pier, Hot Tuna, Baccara, Windmill and every other Walking Street venue: no enforced dress code. Shorts, sandals, t-shirts, anything respectable. The de-facto uniform on the strip is t-shirt + shorts + sandals for men, casual dress or top + shorts for women.
What never works anywhere
- No shirt
- Wet swimwear straight from the beach
- Visible bachelor-party-style costumes (the megaclubs will sometimes refuse)
A practical budget for one Walking Street night
- Cover at one megaclub on a weekend: 300–500 THB (with drink)
- Three beers across two bars: 450 THB
- One cocktail at Illuzion or 808: 300–400 THB
- Street food snack: 80–150 THB
- Songthaew home from Walking Street to Central Pattaya: 50–100 THB
- Total realistic mid-budget night: ~1,500 THB / ~45 USD
The bottom line
You will rarely pay to get in anywhere on Walking Street. You can wear almost anything as long as your feet are covered at the two flagships. Carry cash in mixed notes, ask for itemised receipts at go-go bars, and you'll have a problem-free night. For a full overview of the strip itself, see our Walking Street zone guide.
